Paul Smith (the Designer) and Tea
I love fashion, even though I don’t like to admit it at times. I love pretty things, artistic things, well designed things, bling things, expensive things, brands, clothes, bags, shoes, the works. I don’t like admitting it because I see it as the polar opposite of personal development, organic living, being spiritual.
Material goods after all are just empty pursuits in an attempt to fill a void right? Regardless I was tickled fancy when I saw that Paul Smith, the colorful British designer, had come up with some trendy tea accessories – including a tea infuser, a fine china teapot with a matching teacup and saucer,. Paul Smith is notorious and recognized for his colorful bold striped patterns in the fashion industry and as you can see from the image on the left, he used his signature mark on his tea wares as well.
I love the design of the heart shaped tea infuser, it’s created in such a way that the bow of the heart and arrow can sit on top of your tea cup. It is listed online at £ 45.75 pounds. The trendy teapot is listed online at £245 pounds. And of course you absolutely cannot have tea with this teapot without its matching teacup and saucer so you must get them as well. Those are listed at £74 pounds. Oh and who would have tea by themselves with this beautiful tea ware so you should get a set of at least 4 teacups. Let’s add this up £245 + £74 (x4) = £541 or about $1000 Canadian for just the Paul Smith tea set without the infuser, the creamer and sugar pot which would set you back another £68 and £74 pounds respectively. All I have to say is, if you are going to put down almost a grand for this tea set I hope you have some damn good tea to go with it. I can’t wait to see what Gucci or Louis Vuitton will come up with in the area of tea design.
On the topic of design, I’m suprised Paul Smith didn’t win a red dot award for design. Hm or maybe he didn’t apply.
