The 2009 World Tea Expo Updates and WIRED “Tea Is the New Coffee”
The World Tea Conference is less than a month away and I am super excited! I am going to book my flights today. I’ll be flying into San Francisco for 10 8 days to check out the tea rich city and then heading into Las Vegas for 7. I’m super excited to check out all the tea shops, health food stores, farmers markets, yoga studios and raw food restaurants in the area. Check out David Wolfe’s Sunfood Traveler if you want to explore raw restaurants on vacation. I was able to update my tea map thanks to everyone on Tea Chat giving me suggestions of where to go when I’m in San Fran.
On WIRED yesterday there was an article aptly named “Tea Is the New Coffee” and guess who was in the image? Timothy Ferris! I’m a huge fan of the Four Hour Work Week and I was shocked to see Timothy and Kevin do a video together. I wonder if those two will be at the World Tea Expo. The Four Hour Work Week actually sits on my desk with all my teas! I won’t even get into law of attraction. A quote from the article
In Silicon Valley, specialty tea is quickly becoming a phenomenon. Specialty shops, stores and tearooms devoted to the leaf are sprouting up all over the Bay Area. In San Francisco, tea businesses have gone beyond Chinatown and Japantown, spreading to Hayes Valley, the Castro and SOMA.
Tea is so hot right now! No pun intended.

Kevin Rose and Tea?

You never know where tea will show up.
Okay this is bizarre. I was reading tea blogs and I randomly stumbled upon a tea Twitter account called goodtea with the name Kevin Rose in brackets. What? No way…could it be? It was!! I found out that Kevin Rose the founder of Digg.com is a tea enthusiast and this is his account! This is so random! I always assume people are more interested in consuming copious amounts of alcohol than tea. I am always on Digg.com and recently I saw a video of Kevin with Gary Vaynerchuk (host of wine library TV) talking about wine. Kevin even made a tea video showing how to keep your teas to avoid tea clutter and he used Silk Road Teas as a demonstration! I just bought the documentary on the original founder of Silk Road Teas last week. The company isn’t very big compared to let’s say Adiago. Random! Also, apparently he was the one who inspired Ocean of Tea. I started following Ocean of Tea on Twitter before I even knew about that connection. Okay so because this guy is one of the biggest celebrities on the net, there is a going to be a huge influx larger amount of interest regarding teas among the netizens. This is amazing! This proves I’m not some crazy old tea lady! The more people who get educated and show an interest in teas the better. It’s time to bring tea back! Check out this tea documentary Kevin recommended. ♥
