Modesto, CA – Congressman George Radanovich’s Modesto office was evacuated Friday afternoon when an intern discovered a granular substance in an envelope.  The Stanislaus County Hazardous Response Team was called in to investigate.

A statement from Radanovich’s office says the substance was found to be tea, which fell out of a tea bag.  It is possibly as a protest to big government spending.  Protests known as tea parties are being scheduled all across the country.

Radanovich says he supports the tea party movement, but adds that it is ironic that taxpayer money had to be wasted because the teabag was mistaken for a toxic substance. He says a letter or e-mail would be a more, “efficient way to communicate the message of support for tea parties.”

“Unfortunately, due to previous incidences, where lives have been lost, congressional offices must take every precaution when an unknown substance is received in the mail,” says Radanovich.

That’s just sad.  How does loose tea in any way shape or form look look like a toxic substance?  I’m really curious to know what kind of tea it was.  Well aged pu-erh?  A strong smelling bancha green tea?  A Lipton’s breakfast blend taken out of the tea bag?  Shady looking rooibos?  What a waste of tea. People need to start to drink more tea and look at their loose tea more often.
