Homemade Green Tea Ice In Time For Summer
You will need the following Ingredients
- 2 cups almond, soy or oat milk
- 1 tbsp loose green tea
- 6 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 1 1/2 tbsp Japanese green tea powder
- Heat milk with tea for 5 minutes just below a simmer. Whisk together the egg yolks and sugar. Gradually whisk hot milk into egg mixture until all milk has been added. Return to pot and cook over medium-low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until it coats the back of a spoon. Strain and chill completely. Stir in cream and green tea powder and churn in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions. Spoon into a container and freeze until firm.
Yields 5 cups of ice cream or one tub for me.

Any suggestions on where I can find the Japanese green tea powder?
I’ve seen them in Chinese supermarkets, but in super sketchy packaging.
Hey Matt,
There is a Japanese supermarket that sells Matcha from all price ranges. It’s near Metro Square. If you want to pick up a specific brand like DoMatcha you can go to Planet Organic or any other health food store but they are around one set price range around $20-30!
Do you have a whisk and bowl already?
Cheers! Diana
