I’m going to review the 2009 Packex Toronto Show before I delve into the details behind monster that was the 2009 World Tea Expo.
I attended the Packex Toronto show a few hours after I got off my red eye flight from Las Vegas. The show wasn’t what I expected, there were a lot of manufacturers there. There were many pieces of large, heavy and expensive pieces of machinery on display. I saw products ranging from $40 all the way to $60 000 +. Speaking with some people, I was also told the show was smaller than many other packaging shows. Apparently, the next big packaging show in Vegas. If anyone would like to shed some light on that, please comment on this post by all means!
Silver Award - Red Rose - Unilever Canada Inc.
My favourite part about Packex Toronto was the room that showcased all the Leadership Awards winners and contestants. Here you could read about the client, graphic designer, the vision behind the package, who printed it and other various behind the scenes details. For example the Red Rose Orange Pekoe tea packaging won Silver for Brand Marketing under Brand Rejuvenation. The customer was Unilever Canada Inc., the graphic designer was Davis and the Pre-Press/Printer was done by Schawk Canada Inc.. Higgins and Burke coffee and teas, designed by Bridgemark, won the PAC National Packaging Award. Obviously a tea company is going to take best of show. 
Overall, this was an eye opening experience for me. Anyone who is serious about selling a physical product that is going to be in a package needs to contact the packaging association in their country or jurisdiction, and attend a packing show such as this one. In Canada, the Packaging Association of Canada or PAC, would be the association to contact, and if you are in the United States I would attend Pack Expo or contact them for more information.
